Susan K. Giordano

Chief Nursing Executive

Susan Giordano, RN, BSN, MBA, NE-BC, FACHE, joined Kaiser Permanente’s Mid-Atlantic region in fall 2023 as our Chief Nursing Executive (CNE). She joins our team with more than 33 years of experience as a health care leader. As CNE, Susan is responsible for advancing our superior nursing care through transparent direction, strong leadership, and the planning, organizing, and managing all aspects of patient care.

She oversees the professional practice of nursing and the provision of nursing care in all licensed and surveyable areas, including our ambulatory locations and partner hospital organizations. She also fosters collaborative partnerships with other health plan delivery system leaders and our physician teams at the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group to ensure we leverage capabilities and share best practices across the region.


Susan comes to Kaiser Permanente from Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) Pascack Valley Medical Center, where she served as Chief Nurse Officer starting in 2014. In this executive role, Susan was responsible for the effective leadership of multiple patient care departments, including the emergency department, intensive care unit, medical surgical nursing units, women and children’s services, perioperative services, organizational education, and pharmacy. She also successfully implemented several programs, including nurse fellowship, student nurse extern program, international recruitment, and the DAISY Nursing Awards.

Prior to her work at HMH, Susan spent 22 years at Hackensack University Medical Center in several nurse leadership and executive roles. Notably, she was instrumental in achieving Magnet designation for the facility, which was the first hospital to receive the designation outside of the pilot organizations.


Susan holds a Master of Business Administration with a focus in international business from Montclair State University. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Delaware. She’s a current fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and a member of the American Nurses Association.

During her career, Susan has actively participated on a variety of community and organization boards. She is passionate about the development of future leaders and serves as a mentor for those pursuing careers in health care and nursing through ACHE and local universities.
